Dollhouse slate roof on a budget

Making a slate roof on a budget takes a little time, but is well worth it.
The cheap wood shingles I already had happened to be warped but that worked for my vision.
Cheap wood shingles cover individually with wood filler then painted.

Apply the wood filler on the wood shingle with a putty knife. Not too perfectly because slate has texture. Study a photo of slate roofing.

If you are using cardboard (cereal or pizzs box), coat a large sheet of it with wood filler. Watch what you are buying, I accidentally bought a more liquid version. You want it to be thick. I prefer Elmer’s wood filler brand.

Once dry, sand your wood shingles so they are smooth, but veins and ridges are welcome. If you made a cardboard sheet then sand and draw lines with a pencil and cut with a utility knife.

If you like, you can add a green wash for moss and some ground up reindeer moss once the shingles are adhered.

Pizza box covered with wood filler, cutout, applied with glue gun and painted.
